Let me tell you about a student who has been with us for more than seven years.
She'd always been interested in languages. She graduated from university and then sat the competitive exams to work for the European Union as an English translator.
You can imagine how high her level already was, but she'd been studying French for years and wanted to strengthen it, as she was probably going to move to Luxembourg.
With this kind of exam you join a pool of candidates and wait for a public institution to call you up.
Three years later, she got a post in the English–Spanish section. But the best part was that her French had reached such a high level that she was made head of the French section, with a pay rise.
As soon as she started in her new post, she was given more responsibility for having improved a language she hadn't originally been hired for.
Never give up on learning or improving your skills for life.
I'm not saying you should only learn and improve languages other than your mother tongue, but any learning that gives you more strength to overcome the obstacles life puts in our way.
